Track down some Wi-Fi Hotspots in your area...

As more and more mobile devices are becoming the norm there is an ever increasing demand for Wi-Fi access points, wherever you happen to be. I've discovered a cool hotspot directory called JiWire that has data for nearly 100,000 free and paid-for global access points. Nearly 25% of these are in the UK, so fire up the site and select a town or city to view the available points in that area. You can see the type of hotspot it is, view its location on a map plus check the connection options.
So whether its a pda, psp, laptop or the latest mobile phone you'll be surfing on the move...

My PC is currently in need of some more RAM! I know, you just can't have enough...Exactly what type is it though and how can I find out quickly?
I've just tracked down this cool bit of freeware called CPU-Z. This clever app gathers information on a selection of your system devices including the CPU and motherboard, cache and memory spec.
The general rule of thumb for RAM is that you should always buy at least an additional 1GB for XP and 2GB for Vista and always buy as much as you can afford at the time!

Is there such a thing as a totally secure browser?

Looking through the myriad of web browsers I've come across a new web browser that aims to provide surfers with the most secure internet experience possible! H'mmm like the sound of that!
Developed by EISST the e-Capsule Private Browser uses encryption to keep information secure. Data such as passwords are kept encrypted and hidden within the browser and no data exposure to the operating system occurs. This means 'no footprints' on your PC, no temporary internet files, registry settings etc. There has to be a downside and the major one is that it costs £20, against all the other free browsers this could be it's biggest stumbling block. I'm currently running with the 14 day free trial to see what I think, so go on have a look and see what a secure browser can do for you and your business....

Spyware Terminator, "Hasta la Vista, baby"..

Spyware, Malware is yet another breach of security for the PC user. I have had various products running for a while but most of these charge for their 'pro-editions' so I have recently settled on Spyware Terminator. This product is a thorough security application that not only finds and removes most instances of malware, but also prevents future infection by immunising your system plus providing real-time protection. It has an excellent interface and is so easy to find your way around. During installation there is an option to install Crawler's Web Security Guard along with ST. I've got more than enough additional toolbars so I simply unticked the box. Try it out though, if you wish!
Spyware Terminator is a great product to have on your side....

Save energy and ease your eco-conscience....

If like me, you leave your PC running for long periods and wish to ease your eco-conscience here's a cool tool that can reduce the amount of power you're consuming. CO2 Saver is a free tool that adjusts your Windows Power Management settings to limit your computer's power usage when it's idle, which saves energy and your electricity supply demand. It's cool toolbar also displays the amount of CO2 emissions you've saved. Go on jump on the Eco bandwagon and take a look!
Another small program that pools PC resources is World Community Grid which uses the idle time on your PC to accelerate the pace of research into priority issues such as Cancer, AIDS and human proteins. Do your bit for world research!
