Come and fly me to the moon!

Well not quite that far! I've been checking out some ways to use the beloved Tesco Clubcard Tokens and have stumbled across a great refreshed site, which by all accounts is Britain's most popular travel loyalty scheme. Yes Airmiles has launched a new site that is brimming with some cool features. You can find out everything about Airmiles: what they are, how to collect and spend them plus in the Travel section they have a Need Inspiration area that gives you plenty of ideas about breaks, activities plus promotions and deals galore! There is also a calculator that tells you how far you can go with your number of miles plus an Insider's Guide to pick up tips and share experiences. Get saving and spread your wings!

Who's your favourite Brand!

A recent survey in Marketing magazine has revealed that Amazon and Google are among the favourite brands in the UK. This clearly shows the central role that the internet now plays in our everyday lives. This annual survey had Amazon, Google and eBay in the top five along with best-loved brand names such as Persil, Tesco and Heinz. Both women and men voted in the survey with Nokia and Google being the top two respectively. So what was the worst?
AOL was voted second most hated brand behind McDonalds, making it more unpopular than Pot Noodle, Sunny Delight and Manchester United!
I would probably have voted the same way as a true 'Amazonian' and a hater of everything AOL...You can find out more about the survey and business branding at brandrepublic.com

Troubleshoot USB Pen Drives in XP!

Here's a solution to a problem I was having with getting XP File Manager to recognise a new USB Pen 512Mb Drive. Plug and Play was not behaving and although when I connected the drive I got a reassuring 'ding' on my speakers, the drive letter and device was not visible. A quick check in Google gave me the answer I was looking for. A cool USB Drive Letter Manager from a german software company called Uwe Sieber did the business. A quick Zip download, a click to install one file and hey presto job done! Solutions R-Us!!!!!!

Beware the domain-name scammers!

Watch out if you have your own domain name, either private or business, as there are some unscrupulous domain sellers out there. You don't need me to remind me that the internet brings out the worst in some people! The other day I was called by a salesperson saying that someone was attempting to buy the .com version of my domain, and would I like to buy it now to prevent them having it? Of course I declined and a quick check online tells me that the .com is still available - surprise, surprise!

Use Internic to check .COM domains and Nominet for .CO.UK ones!

Get a Vista facelift and transform your XP....

Vista!, who needs it. I have been investigating and come up with some cool apps that can give your PC a Vista face-lift without major surgery or cost!

1. First you have to patch or alter the uxtheme.dll to allow it to except third-party styles. Install and run UXtheme Patcher from http://tinyurl.com/qp9kh . Windows will restart.
2. Download VistaVG v2.0 from http://tinyurl.com/2poeep Once installed this will open the Display Properties box. Select VistaVG and click Apply
3. Add a cool Vista Wallpaper to complete the look from http://www.vistawallpaperarchive.com/
4. Another cool app is TopDesk from http://www.otakusoftware.com/ that gives a 3D view of your open tasks, very similar to Vista's Flip3D.
5. Finally add an app like http://www.klipfolio.com/ which has a host of cool widgets direct on your desktop.
There are obviously a lot more applications to add, but 1-5 above 'give the look' without the grief of moving to Vista with all the bugs and software issues this throws up.

I'm delighted with the look, so give it a go and let me know what you think.

Cool Web Widgets on your desktop!

Fancy some cool web widgets that can enhance your PC , bypass your browser and deliver the latest news feeds, weather forecasts, system info and more direct to your desktop. There are some great ones out there including the ever favourite Google Desktop and Yahoo Widgets although I have a leaning to KlipFolio. It has a superb interface that can be easily customised so what are you waiting for, go on and personalise your dashboard!

Does your software need updating?

Just found a cool tool called Update Checker from Filehippo that's particularly useful for professional and novice alike. All you need to do is run this small 116kb program and it goes away and scans your computer for software, checking if you're in need of an update. It provides a list with appropriate links to file downloads. Excellent bit of kit! Filehippo is also a great resource for lots of other essential programs...

Find a great place to buy software that can help you with different file conversions, such as converting PDF to word or text as well as PDF conversion to other formats such as PDF to Excel and others.

Google get's personal!

Google's gone and done it again, if you haven't already noticed! Its renamed the personalised homepage as iGoogle and launched some new features and tools to go with it. I like Google Gadgets that let's you add personal touches to your homepage, such as mini photo galleries and an event countdown to say a holiday or anniversary. Google have also dropped Froogle due to customer confusion and renamed it Google Product Search so look out for a new refreshed interface that will make it easier to find those products online!

Google goes from strength to strength...where too next?

Kids Direct new site is now up!

Just a quick one to let you know that Kids Direct new web site is up and running! Debbie has done a great job and the site is constantly developing with new areas in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk being setup "as we blog" . Please check it out and make recommendations and give constructive feedback, it will be very welcome!
